Shadow box

Today I decided to alter the little paper box I bought earlier. I didn’t have any idea what I wanted to do with it. I sort of just went with the flow.

I added some paper from Graphic 45 and some pictures I found on Graphics Fairy. The background behind the lady and the crown is a playing card, with some texture paste I added through a stencil. I also sprayed the inside of the box with Dylusions Vibrant Turquoise.
The embellishments are some stuff I had laying around, brads, paper clip, sequin and button. The stars I cut out from a paper-scrap I had, can’t remember where it came from.

Hope you’re having a great summer!

We’re on vacation. The first days of your vacation is like Friday afternoon… only longer. Love it!

We’ve gone to our cottage, hanging out with my brother- and sister-in-law. Today it’s raining, but that’s OK. I’ve done some crochet, gone to the small flee market and even did some cleaning!
Ha! Now I don’t have to do anything more today… maybe play some games.

The crochet pattern is from A Creative Being and is called Picots and Petals Mandala, you can find it here. Loved working with this pattern! It worked up really fast, especially as I used Drops Paris cotton and a 4 mm hook.
The interesting part was that when I added red it suddenly turned to a Christmas doily…

We went to the small flee market up the road after lunch and I found a small book and two small boxes. The book I’m going to alter into a small art journal, only using the covers. The boxes, I think I can use for some alteration and assemblage. Almost the best thing is that they were free! My husband bought a soda siphon and we got my things without any cost. Isn’t that great!?

In the afternoon my mother-in-law invited us for some freshly baked vanilla buns and chocolate cake. Totally delish.

Pretty much a perfect start to a vacation.

Hope all is good with you. Whether you’re on vacation or not.
See you!

New header

Changed the layout and header. Yay! Love the picture I used for the header. It’s a spread I did a couple of weeks ago. I still haven’t added any word or journaling… not sure if I want to…

The original spread looks like this:

The layout might change a bit, but for now it’ll make do.

Have a good one!

Book binding

This is going to be a pic heavy post. I would like to show my first book I’ve stitched together my self. Weeee! Loved making this, every picture is chosen because I like it and off course the book is in mainly green and blue. The book is rather small, something like 12,5 cm (or 5 inch).

It’s made in Coptic stitch and I watched all video tutorials of Laura Lein-Svencner before I started… and during. It’s great with You Tube! You can stop and pause at any time, I’ve used it much when teaching myself to crochet.

The covers are made out of old cardboard I had laying around, always saving good boxes to use… someday. I’m such a hoarder…
First there are two pics from my wip, and then there are pics of every page I’ve finished. I’ve used many different scraps of paper, some I know is from Basic Grey, but much are just stuff I’ve had for ages. The picture of the badger I’ve had since I were like 7 or something. Isn’t he pretty?
Ok, so here we go. Hope you like it. 🙂

I still have a couple of pages left to fill, but I do love my little book. I haven’t made any journaling, but this feels like a sketchbook where I’ve tried to use different techniques and material. The page with the star in green and blue, I’ve used alcohol ink, never used it before. So, a great way to try new stuff.

Thanks for watching.

This life

The past year, and this as well, has been a rough one.
I ended up home on sick leave, the doctor said it was a clear case of burn out. I’ve had a great doctor, and my colleagues and manager have been really supportive. It’s been a long way back, but I can feel I’m getting there. I’ve started working again, if only for a couple of hours and I’m working on my good routines. Daily walks, crochet, art and crafts.

Actually this period has given me my creativity back. When I was younger I always drew and painted. Drew scenes from Lord of The Rings while listening to music. I’ve got this back and it feels so darn good!! Nothing can make me feel so good as some paper, paint, music and what not that can turn into something amazing, from your imagination.

I made this in my watercolour journal and I thought this quote from The Verve’s song “Bittersweet Symphony” suited a spread like this. Love this song from the 90ies, and the video…

I took the selfie on one of the tough days while in bed, sometimes I guess you need to remember those days too.

I’ve used a stencil from Tim Holtz, some odd paper scraps, my old acrylic paints for base and splatters… and the letters might be from Basic Grey… I think…

Take care of yourself.
Stay creative.

Do or do not

We love Star Wars in this family, but we like the old films the best. My husband and I use the saying Yoda has: “Do, or do not. There is no try.” … or something like that…
I think it works on many things. Like don’t feel bad about the dishes waiting, decide to do them, or not to. They wont go away and when you’ve decided that you wont do them, you can find peace to create something instead. Art before chores might be my new saying. 😉

The little house I see on my daily walks in a green space close to our home. It’s like a mini forest just around the corner.

Remember, do or do not. Guilt is a negative feeling and leads to nothing creative. 😉
